"Free Books to Colorado Teachers" Project

The "Free Books to Colorado Teachers" Project is Front Range Objectivism's annual fund-raising drive in support of the Ayn Rand Institute's Free Books to Teachers Program. This fundraising provides Colorado's high school teachers with the books they need to teach Ayn Rand's novels in their classes.

Since 2002, the Ayn Rand Institute has offered free copies of Anthem and The Fountainhead to teachers all across North America. Some classrooms are now also eligible to receive Atlas Shrugged. ARI's program has been highly successful; in fact, to date more than 1.4 million copies of the three novels have been sent to 30,000 teachers in 40,000 classrooms across the United States and Canada. Given an expected three-year lifespan of the books, it is estimated that more than three million young people will be introduced to Ayn Rand's books and ideas over the next few years as a direct result of this program.

For the 2008/2009 academic year, FRO's "Free Books to Colorado Teachers" Project raised close to $13,000 for high school teachers throughout the state of Colorado. Those teachers ordered more than 5,000 copies of Ayn Rand's novels.

What do Colorado teachers have to say about the program?

• Pueblo South High -- "I received copies of Anthem, The Fountainhead, and Atlas Shrugged, and I have used all three novels: Anthem in my English (sophomore) classes, The Fountainhead in my Advanced Placement English Lit class, and Atlas Shrugged in my Advanced Literature (college) class. All three novels were enthusiastically received."
• Clear Creek High School - "I would like to use this class set for an Honors English 9 classroom, and would specifially like to have my students think, write and enter the essay contest after having read the book. The sooner the better; thank you for this opportunity."
• Montrose High School - "This is so ironic. A teacher and I had just decided this morning to teach Anthem this year in our 9th grade class and The Fountahead in 11th. We did not have the books so this is a wonderful opportunity. Thank you."
